The police have found that Jaswanti Narwal, local shelter home owner and main accused in the sexual abuse case, took ‘donations’ of about Rs. 91,000 to give away two boys to families from Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) and Delhi.

Sources said one boy was illegally adopted for Rs. 60,000 by

a Aligarh-based family two years ago, while another was ‘sold’ for Rs. 31,000 to a Delhi-based family a year ago. Jaswanti received the amount in the name of NGO Bharat Vikas Sangh and also took affidavits from the families concerned for ensuring the children’s safety.

Superintendent of police Vivek Sharma told Hindustan Times that the police had detected that Jaswanti violated adoption norms and took donations illegally. Inspector general of police (IGP) Alok Mittal said teams had been sent to Aligarh and Delhi on Sunday morning to recover the boys. On Wednesday, during the raid by a team of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Jaswanti had claimed that one of the boys had died due to illness, while the other was adopted by a family.

‘I can prove my innocence’

Jaswanti was produced in the court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till May 18. Talking to mediapersons outside the district courts, she said government officials who had visited the shelter home had been impressed by its functioning. Jaswanti said she had adequate evidence to prove her innocence in the court.

When asked to name the government officials or politicians she had threatened to expose, she said, “I would reveal their names into the court.”

Meanwhile, the police arrested Sheela, wife of co-accused Satish, on Sunday. She has been remanded in police custody till May 18. Satish has already been arrested.

Girl found in Delhi

The Delhi police have found Simran (30), who was allegedly abandoned by Jaswanti and her cousin Satish on May 8 in the Bawana area of New Delhi. She was admitted to a private hospital in the Capital by the police. Her condition is said to be stable.

Oppn seeks CBI probe

The opposition parties, Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the charges of sexual abuse and torture at the Rohtak shelter home.

At a press conference here on Sunday, BJP and HJC leaders said it was shameful that the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government was not taking the issue seriously. Rohtak is the hometown of chief minister Hooda.

Hard-working woman: Bhukkal

Speaking for the first time about the case, Haryana education, social justice and empowerment and minister Geeta Bhukkal said the state government had honoured Jaswanti for welfare services on the recommendation of the district administration.

Bhukkal called Jaswanti a ‘hard-working’ woman who had done ‘commendable’ work through her NGO, but hastened to add that the state government would take back all awards given to her in case she was convicted.
