Aligarh, Apr 9 (PTI) The executive council of the Aligarh Muslim University will meet on April 12 in Delhi to setup a panel of five names from which the university’s next Vice-Chancellor would be selected, a senior university official said here today. The meeting, which was earlier scheduled for November last year, was postponed due to some “technical and legal hassles”. On January 17, VC P K Abdul Azis had stepped down from the top post, and handed over the charge to senior most dean among members of the executive council. Ever since the university has been headed by three acting vice-chancellors successively. After March 27, when the Supreme Court issued a directive that the university would be run by the executive council operating through the Registrar till it a permanent V-C is appointed, the university was without a VC. Once the council decides on 5 names in Delhi, the university would further shortlist three names. Then university court would meet at Aligarh on April 15, “to select three candidates from the five shortlisted by the executive council on April 12,” sources in the varsity said. These three names will then be forwarded to the Visitor, in this case the President of India, for selecting one out of them for the university’s top post.Selection of VC: AMU council to meet on Apr 12 to set up panel, 3.5 out of 5 based on 2 ratings
